Structural Load Monitoring Case Study

Challenge: Delivering Precision in a Complex, Multi-Year Testing Program

Sensor Solutions was contracted to execute the static testing of the A350 XWB aircraft, a highly ambitious and technically demanding project. Spanning several years and encompassing three aircraft sets, the project required meticulous planning, coordination, and execution across multiple locations and phases of development.

Solution: Comprehensive Support Across Locations and Teams

Sensor Solution’s role was pivotal in the success of this extensive testing program. Their approach included:

  1. Extensive Instrumentation:
    • Over 1,000 strain gauges were installed on the aircraft structures to accurately measure stress and deformation during testing.
    • Alongside these installations, Sensor Solution managed the integration of over 1,000 kilometers of cable looms, ensuring seamless connectivity and data transmission throughout the testing processes.
  2. Close Collaboration with Production Teams:
    • Sensor Solution worked hand-in-hand with the production teams to ensure the instrumentation process aligned with the aircraft assembly schedules.
    • This coordination minimized disruption and maintained tight adherence to project timelines.
  3. Multi-Site Operations:
    • The project began in Broughton, where initial instrumentation and setup were carried out.
    • As the aircraft moved to testing phases, Sensor Solution followed the project to major test houses in Toulouse, France, and near Munich, Germany, providing on-site expertise and support at each stage.
